Percentage Welsh Gold
For this range I create my own special 9ct and 18ct gold alloys containing a very exact five percent of pure Welsh Gold. To ensure this accuracy I mix only four grammes of the alloy at a time. If I need more for a heavier item I mix it in 4 gramme batches, and melt these together.
Melting and alloying is done on a charcoal block using an oxygen/propane jeweller’s torch. This gold alloy is then shaped while molten into tiny ingots, which I roll on a rolling-mill to make wires and sheets. The rolling has to be done slowly and carefully with frequent annealing (heating and cooling) to avoid cracking of the metal. My Welsh Gold pieces therefore take a much longer time to make, as with my “world gold” pieces this preliminary work has already been done by the refining companies who supply jewellers with their gold and silver.
I produce a range of standard pieces, including plain wedding rings, my popular three-strand Celtic plait rings, and gemstone rings. This is a small but carefully-planned range, as I am a one-man workshop and make everything by hand myself. I also accept special commissions for work in Welsh gold, according to my workload at the time.
